Argentina's President Javier Milei has once again insulted Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during a speech in Madrid, a year after a similar incident caused a diplomatic dispute.
Speaking at the Madrid Economic Forum on Sunday, Milei referred to Sanchez as a "local bandit" without mentioning his name directly.
The Spanish government chose not to respond publicly to Milei's latest remarks.
Milei, who became president in late 2023, is known for his bold and often controversial behavior. Before entering politics, he was a TV personality and has made dramatic gestures, like smashing a fake central bank on live TV.
In May 2024, Milei caused tension by calling Sanchez's wife, Begona Gomez, "corrupt" during another visit to Madrid. Spain reacted by pulling its ambassador from Argentina for several months, after Milei refused to apologize.
Instead of backing down, Milei went further, calling Sanchez "arrogant", "totalitarian", and a "coward". Argentina, however, kept its ambassador in Spain.
Begona Gomez is currently being investigated for possible corruption, but both she and Sanchez deny any wrongdoing.
