Chinese President Xi Jinping and Myanmar’s junta leader Min Aung Hlaing exchanged congratulatory messages on Sunday to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation and mutual support.

In a statement reported by Chinese state media Xinhua, President Xi praised the long-standing bilateral relationship, saying it has "withstood challenges and become even more resilient." He emphasized that China and Myanmar have maintained strong neighborly ties, expanded cooperation, and consistently supported each other's core interests—an example, he said, of friendly international relations.

Xi reiterated China’s commitment to advancing a robust and mutually beneficial partnership with Myanmar.

Min Aung Hlaing, for his part, expressed gratitude to China for its humanitarian aid following a recent earthquake in Myanmar. He also thanked Beijing for its support in Myanmar’s ongoing efforts toward peace, stability, reconciliation, and development.

The junta leader voiced hope for further accelerating cooperation with China across multiple sectors to build a stronger and more resilient bilateral partnership.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang also sent a congratulatory message, highlighting the progress in friendship and collaboration achieved over the past 75 years.

The anniversary comes as Myanmar’s military government has announced plans to hold elections in December 2025—the first since the February 2021 coup that ousted the civilian government. The announcement was reported by Myanmar’s Eleven Media Group.
