Russia launched one of its largest aerial assaults since the war began, striking six regions across Ukraine and killing three emergency workers in Kyiv, as tensions escalated following controversial remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump.
In one of the most extensive aerial offensives since the start of the war, Russia launched strikes on six regions across Ukraine, Ukrainian officials reported on Friday. The overnight assault lasted several hours and claimed the lives of three emergency workers in Kyiv, according to authorities.
The Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson, Yurii Ihnat, stated that the attack involved 407 drones and 44 ballistic and cruise missiles. Ukrainian defence systems reportedly intercepted around 30 cruise missiles and up to 200 drones.
The escalation followed remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested it might be better to “let Ukraine and Russia fight for a while” before intervening to broker peace. The comment marked a departure from his earlier calls to halt the conflict and may indicate a shift away from recent peace initiatives.
