A cargo ship carrying 3,000 vehicles, including 800 electric cars, was abandoned off Alaska’s coast after a massive fire broke out onboard.
The Morning Midas, a Liberia-flagged cargo vessel en route from China to Mexico, was left adrift by its 22-member crew after a fire erupted on a deck carrying electric vehicles. Zodiac Maritime, the ship's operator, confirmed the crew safely evacuated using lifeboats and were rescued by nearby vessels with support from the U.S. Coast Guard. The ship was located 300 miles southwest of Adak, Alaska. The fire reportedly started in the section containing electric vehicles, known for posing significant challenges due to the high risk of reignition. Authorities have dispatched air and sea units to manage the situation and begin salvage efforts.
