A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Türkiye near Mugla’s Marmaris district, causing panic and minor injuries. Officials report building cracks and dozens injured after jumping in fear.
Türkiye experienced a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea, just over 10 kilometers from Marmaris in the Mugla province, according to the Turkish Interior Ministry's Emergency Management Agency (AFAD). The quake originated at a depth of nearly 68 kilometers.
While the tremor did not cause widespread destruction, panic among residents led to 34 people sustaining injuries after jumping from buildings in fear. Mugla Governor Idris Akbiyik confirmed the injuries and stated that two buildings in Marmaris sustained cracks as a result of the earthquake.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, although no fatalities or major structural damage have been reported so far.
