Strong 6.3 earthquake hits Japan’s Hokkaido coast

A strong 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture early Monday, causing no reported injuries or damage, and no tsunami warning was issued, officials confirmed.

Early Monday morning, a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture. The quake occurred at 3:52 a.m. local time (18:52 GMT Sunday) at a shallow depth, shaking areas such as Taiki and Urahoro with a seismic intensity of 4 on Japan’s 7-level scale, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency and public broadcaster NHK.

Fortunately, no casualties or property damage have been reported so far. Authorities did not issue any tsunami warnings following the tremor.

This event marks the second significant earthquake in the region within two days. On Saturday afternoon, a 6.1 magnitude quake also struck Hokkaido, underscoring ongoing seismic activity in the area. Residents remain vigilant as local agencies continue to monitor the situation closely.
