U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a call with his Russian counterpart, praised a major prisoner exchange and backed continued peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reaffirmed President Donald Trump’s call for “good faith dialogue” between Ukraine and Russia as the only path to ending the war.
Rubio made the remarks during a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
He also praised the recent “1000-for-1000” prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, which followed peace talks held in Istanbul on May 16.
Russia has since proposed holding a new round of talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on June 2 to exchange written proposals for a ceasefire and a possible end to the conflict.
