The European Union has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 50% tariff on EU goods by calling for respectful trade negotiations and emphasizing the need to avoid escalating tensions.
Following President Trump’s announcement of a possible 50% tariff on imports from the EU, the European Union highlighted the importance of maintaining trade discussions based on mutual respect. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic reaffirmed the EU’s dedication to achieving a fair and balanced agreement.
While Trump expressed frustration with the slow progress of negotiations and indicated tariffs could start on June 1, he also mentioned potential flexibility depending on European investment in the United States.
