A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the Marmara Sea off the coast of Istanbul’s Büyükçekmece district late Monday night, according to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The tremor occurred at 11:36 p.m. local time at a depth of 8.16 kilometers.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül said no damage or injuries had been reported so far. “May God protect our country and nation from all kinds of disasters,” he said in a statement.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
