EU pushes ahead with its 17th sanctions package against Russia, while preparing even stronger measures. Ukraine-Russia talks may begin soon, following a call between Putin and Trump.
The European Union is set to adopt its 17th package of sanctions against Russia, EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas confirmed Tuesday in Brussels. She noted that the bloc is already preparing an 18th round of sanctions to further pressure Moscow. Meanwhile, potential peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are expected after Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday.
Putin cautioned that progress would take time. While European leaders agreed to expand sanctions after Trump’s briefing, the U.S. president held back, saying harsher steps could worsen the situation, though he didn’t rule out future measures.
