On May 19, 2025, the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the UAE’s Tawazun Council signed a deal to strengthen defense cooperation and develop new technologies.
The agreement, a memorandum of understanding, aims to deepen ties between the two countries’ defense sectors by working together on advanced tech solutions and speeding up the use of commercial innovations in the military.
DIU Director Doug Beck said the partnership will build a global network, combining government and private expertise to stay ahead of future threats.
The collaboration will include joint prize challenges to solve shared military needs and give startups access to labs and testing spaces. It also focuses on sharing knowledge, attracting private investment, and growing defense tech industries in both countries.
This move supports the broader U.S.-UAE Major Defense Partnership announced recently and reflects goals from the President’s trip to the region to boost strategic alliances.
