Ukraine and Russia agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war each, following their first direct peace talks in over three years held in Istanbul.
Russia and Ukraine agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war from each side, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov told Ukrainian TV.
If carried out, the exchange would mark the largest prisoner swap since the start of the conflict in February 2022.
The agreement was reached during peace talks held in Istanbul on Friday - the first direct negotiations between the two sides since March 2022.
At the same time, Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation, stated that Moscow was satisfied with the outcome of the talks and expressed readiness to continue discussions with Kyiv. He described the prisoner exchange as a significant humanitarian step forward amid ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions.
