As part of his official visit to Iraq, Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov met on Wednesday with Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq, for wide-ranging discussions on bilateral relations, regional security, and post-conflict development efforts in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting in Baghdad, Minister Bayramov underscored the historic friendship and mutual respect between Azerbaijan and Iraq, highlighting growing cooperation across political, economic, and humanitarian spheres. He particularly emphasized the role of interparliamentary ties in strengthening overall bilateral relations.
Bayramov proposed greater collaboration between legislative institutions through reciprocal visits and joint initiatives, noting that a strong foundation already exists to advance this form of cooperation.
Turning to regional and international security issues, the Azerbaijani minister provided a detailed briefing on Azerbaijan’s post-conflict recovery efforts, including large-scale demining operations, infrastructure reconstruction, and peacebuilding initiatives in territories liberated following the 2020 conflict with Armenia.
The meeting also addressed broader developments in the Middle East, reflecting shared concerns over ongoing instability and the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing regional challenges.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral engagement and pledged continued collaboration on issues of mutual interest.
