Russia has repatriated 205 servicemen from Kiev-controlled territory in exchange for 205 Ukrainian POWs, the Defense Ministry reported.
On May 6, 2025, following negotiations, 205 Russian servicemen were returned from territory controlled by the Kiev regime in exchange for 205 Ukrainian prisoners of war," the statement said.
All Russian servicemen are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving necessary psychological and medical assistance and have been given the opportunity to contact their families.
The released servicemen will be transported to the Russia for treatment and rehabilitation at medical facilities operated by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The United Arab Emirates played a humanitarian intermediary role in facilitating the return of the servicemen.
President Volodymyr Zelensky shared the news on X: "Our people are free. Our people are home. Today, Ukraine has brought back 205 warriors. I am grateful to everyone who worked on this exchange. I thank our partners – first and foremost the United Arab Emirates – for their mediation and support. I thank all those who do not stay indifferent and continue to speak out about Ukrainians in captivity. Every day, we fight for our people. We will do everything to bring each and every one of them home."
