Pakistan has initiated a diplomatic move to request a UN Security Council meeting to discuss recent regional developments, including concerns related to India’s actions and the status of the Indus Waters Treaty.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has directed Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN to take immediate steps to facilitate the convening of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session.
Pakistan plans to raise issues it considers significant, including recent statements and actions by India, as well as the current status of the Indus Waters Treaty - signed between the two countries in 1960.
The Pakistani government aims to outline its view that these developments have implications for peace and stability in South Asia and beyond. The move is part of a broader diplomatic effort to engage the international community on regional matters.
Pakistan is set to hold a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term.
