Three people were killed and 10 others injured in a major road accident involving six vehicles in Marikina City, part of the Philippine capital region, late Wednesday night.
A tragic multi-vehicle collision in Marikina City claimed three lives and left 10 people injured, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported Thursday.
According to police, the accident occurred when a trailer truck lost control and tipped sideways while ascending a road, pinning a passenger jeepney and triggering a chain reaction involving five other vehicles.
The crash involved a trailer truck, two jeepneys, two private cars, and a sport utility vehicle.
The Marikina City disaster risk reduction and management office confirmed that among the fatalities was the driver of the jeepney that was directly struck by the truck. Two other victims were also declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have taken the truck driver into custody as an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
Emergency services responded quickly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. The identities of the victims have not yet been publicly released.
Officials are continuing to assess the damage and review road safety measures in the area.
