On April 23, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Xi Jinping of China convened an expanded meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The two leaders reviewed ongoing cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres, and discussed plans to enhance strategic partnership under their joint roadmap. They exchanged views on regional security, trade facilitation, energy projects, and infrastructure development, including progress on the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline and proposed green energy investments.
President Aliyev underscored Azerbaijan’s commitment to deepening ties with China as part of its “one belt, one road” collaboration, while President Xi highlighted China’s interest in expanding mutual trade and supporting Azerbaijan’s diversification into high-tech industries. Both leaders agreed to accelerate negotiations on a trade agreement and to strengthen people-to-people exchanges through educational, scientific, and cultural programs.
The expanded meeting follows the official welcome ceremony earlier in the day and sets the stage for a state banquet in President Xi’s honour, further cementing the two countries’ growing partnership.
