Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani announced on Saturday that he will make his first official visit to China in early November, following an invitation from Beijing.

Shaibani said Syria needs China’s support for reconstruction at this stage, marking a shift in bilateral ties. Beijing had previously politically supported the former Assad regime and used its veto power at the UN on its behalf.

He also outlined Syria’s foreign policy approach, saying it will remain free of polarization and will not align with any bloc or enter hostilities with other countries. On Russia, he noted that past agreements with the former regime remain suspended and no new deals have been signed.

On regional matters, Shaibani highlighted Syria’s intention to restore relations with Lebanon and address the refugee issue, while also stressing the importance of partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces under the March 10 agreement to reduce divisions in northeastern Syria.
