U.S. President Donald Trump will impose an additional 84% tariff on all Chinese imports starting Wednesday, raising the total tariff rate to at least 104%, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Originally planned as a 34% increase under Trump’s “reciprocal” tariffs plan, the hike was boosted by another 50% after China vowed to impose similar tariffs on U.S. goods. Leavitt emphasised that retaliatory actions by China would not deter Trump, calling his stance unshakable.
“Countries like China, who have chosen to retaliate and try to double down on their mistreatment of American workers, are making a mistake,” Leavitt said.
