Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a brief visit to Morocco on Thursday, as reported by state media from both nations.
Xi was greeted in Casablanca by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, highlighting the strong ties of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between Morocco and China, according to Morocco’s MAP news agency.
Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch also welcomed Xi at the airport, where Xi and the Crown Prince engaged in a “cordial conversation,” as noted by China’s state broadcaster CCTV. The visit followed Xi’s attendance at the G20 Summit in Brazil.
China has increased its investments in Morocco’s infrastructure and rail sectors in recent years. In June, Chinese EV battery producer Gotion High Tech selected Morocco to host Africa’s first gigafactory, a $1.3 billion project.
