India and New Zealand have signed a memorandum of understanding to boost defence cooperation, enhancing bilateral ties through joint exercises, training, and a roadmap for collaboration in the defence industry.

India and New Zealand signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.

The agreement was signed during talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his New Zealand counterpart, Christopher Luxon, in New Delhi.

Both nations have agreed to strengthen and institutionalise their defence and security partnership, Modi told reporters.

“In addition to joint exercises, training, and port visits, a roadmap will be developed for mutual cooperation in the defence industry,” he stated.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said the leaders also discussed deepening ties in trade and investment, maritime cooperation, people mobility, and sports.

“They also exchanged views on reinforcing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific,” he added.
