A drone crashed into a helicopter at a military airfield in South Korea on Monday, igniting a fire and causing significant damage to both aircraft. The incident occurred at the Army Aviation Battalion in the Gwangjeok-myeon area of Yangju city, Gyeonggi province, approximately 30 kilometers north of Seoul.
According to reports from Yonhap News, the drone struck the helicopter after it had already landed at the airfield. Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene to contain the fire, and authorities have confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.
Military officials are currently investigating the cause of the crash, including whether the drone was part of military operations or an unauthorized aircraft. The extent of the damage to the helicopter and the drone is yet to be fully assessed.
This incident raises concerns over airspace security at military facilities, particularly in light of recent technological advancements in unmanned aerial vehicles. The South Korean military is expected to tighten security measures and implement stricter regulations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
