Italy will unveil an industrial strategy in June, linking its automotive, defence, and aerospace sectors amid Europe's focus on defence spending and satellite security.
Italy is set to unveil an industrial strategy in June to strengthen ties between its automotive, defence, and aerospace sectors, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso announced.
The plan comes amid European discussions on boosting defence spending. Urso highlighted that while domestic car production is expected to decline, closer industry collaboration could create growth opportunities.
European defence firms aim to scale up production but warn of long delivery times without government support. Germany’s Rheinmetall is repurposing automotive plants for defence, partnering with Italy’s Leonardo on military vehicles—an initiative aligning with Italy’s goal of fostering "European champions."
Italy is also working to secure encrypted communications for officials in high-risk areas, with Starlink and Eutelsat’s OneWeb among potential providers. Meanwhile, the national space agency is finalising plans for low-orbit satellites to enhance security.
