Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu reinforced the importance of deepening Sino-Russian coordination on global and regional matters. The commitment was made during Shoigu’s visit to Beijing on Friday, as reported by Chinese state media.
China and Russia reaffirmed their strategic alignment in international and regional affairs during high-level meetings in Beijing. President Xi Jinping, in discussions with Sergei Shoigu, emphasised the necessity of maintaining close communication at multiple levels as both nations prepare for "a series of significant agendas."
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi echoed this stance, declaring that Sino-Russian relations would remain "rock-solid and unshakable," according to a statement from the Chinese foreign ministry. The two sides agreed to schedule another round of strategic security consultations at an appropriate time, further reinforcing their commitment to cooperation.
Russia’s Security Council later issued a statement underscoring mutual opposition to NATO’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region. "It was stressed that the spread of the zone of responsibility for NATO into the Asia-Pacific region was unacceptable," the statement noted.
Discussions also included preparations for Moscow’s upcoming commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the World War Two victory over Nazi Germany in May, a significant historical milestone for both nations. The meetings signal continued strategic coordination between Beijing and Moscow amid evolving global power dynamics.
