The Kremlin has dismissed Ukraine's claims of a Russian drone strike on Chornobyl as a "provocation." Despite Ukrainian and U.N. assurances that radiation levels remain normal, the incident unfolded during key talks at the Munich Security Conference on the Ukraine conflict.
The Kremlin dismissed Ukraine's allegations on Friday (February 14) that a Russian drone had caused damage to the containment shelter at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, calling it a "provocation."
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated he did not have detailed information about the reported event, but reiterated that Russia does not target nuclear infrastructure.
Both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the U.N.'s nuclear energy authority confirmed that radiation levels remained normal following the incident, which coincided with key U.S., Ukrainian, and European officials convening at the Munich Security Conference to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
