“Azerbaijan has created a platform, and we are a bridge between the parties. And now it's up to all of us together to make that happen,” UN High-Level Climate Champion, Nigar Arpadarai, tells AnewZ in an exclusive interview ahead of COP29 in Baku.
With COP29 fast approaching, Baku is offering the international community a platform to cooperate, and the outcome depends on all of us working together. That’s what Nigar Arpadarai, the UN High-Level Climate Champion, told AnewZ in an exclusive interview.
“Azerbaijan has created a platform, and we are a bridge between the parties. And now it's up to all of us together to make that happen,” she told AnewZ.
Arpadarai highlighted the vital role Azerbaijan plays in fostering dialogue and ensuring the goals set are achievable, particularly when it comes to securing financing for the green transition. One of the matters to be addressed during COP29 is developing a credible mechanism to tackle this issue.
“So, the main focus of COP29 is finance. This is a finance COP. Because the transition towards green economy, building clean energy systems, resilient cities, this requires trillions of dollars. So, who is going to pay this very expensive bill of this green transition?” Arpadarai asked.
The UN High-Level Climate Champion also spoke of how inclusive she finds the Baku-hosted climate summit and how important civil society is in achieving the targets set.
