Libyan security authorities have recovered 29 more bodies from a mass grave in the southeast, bringing the total number of migrant bodies found in recent days to 57, according to officials.
The latest discovery follows an earlier report by the attorney general, who confirmed 28 bodies were found north of Kufra. The International Organization for Migration stated that the bodies found in two mass graves bore gunshot wounds, raising concerns over migrant safety in the region.
Libyan security forces continue their recovery operation, with authorities expecting more graves to be found. The bodies have been numbered, and DNA samples collected for identification.
Libya remains a major transit route for migrants attempting to reach Europe, with many crossing the Sahara Desert and Mediterranean Sea in dangerous conditions. Recent mass graves have also been discovered in Alwahat and Zawiya, further highlighting the risks migrants face in the country.
