Two years of AnewZ: From Baku to the world
Anewz

From a newsroom in Baku to audiences around the world, AnewZ marks two years of reporting, documentaries and digital journalism.

Two years ago, AnewZ began with an idea: to bring the world closer to the South Caucasus and the South Caucasus closer to the world.

Launched in Baku on 4 November 2024, the international news channel set out to cover global events while giving greater attention to stories and perspectives from the region, Central Asia and the Middle East.

Today, AnewZ reports from more than 50 cities, with 12 bureaus around the world. Its journalists follow the stories shaping international affairs, from conflict and diplomacy to business, culture and technology.

Reporting beyond borders

AnewZ’s first weeks on air coincided with COP29 in Baku, where the channel was an official media partner. Since then, its correspondents have reported from across the world, bringing audiences closer to events as they unfold.

In Syria, an AnewZ team travelled across the north-east to hear from communities living with the consequences of war and political change.

In October 2026, special correspondent Sabir Safarov captured footage from the scene of the attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport. The footage was used by international broadcasters, including the BBC and Al Jazeera.

Stories that go deeper

AnewZ’s original productions give journalists and filmmakers the time to explore the forces behind the headlines.

The Frontline series has taken viewers to Libya, examining the country’s divisions and efforts to rebuild, and to the Korean Peninsula, where the legacy of war continues to shape millions of lives.

In December 2025, AnewZ launched its Investigations unit with The Oligarch’s Design, a documentary filmed across eight countries. Other investigations have explored the role of humanitarian institutions in conflict and questions surrounding power and influence in France.

AnewZ has also brought lesser-known histories to international audiences. Kontrapunkt, which premiered in Berlin, explored two centuries of German-Azerbaijani history. The Aviators of Ganja told the story of Spanish pilots who trained in Azerbaijan before the Second World War.

A documentary on Shaki’s living heritage was screened at the UN World Urban Forum in Baku, while the Destination series has taken viewers to places across Azerbaijan and Central Asia.

A growing digital audience

Alongside its television coverage, AnewZ has built a presence across digital and social media platforms, bringing reporting, interviews, explainers and original films to audiences wherever they watch.

In 2025–2026, AnewZ recorded 1 billion views and 660,000 follows, according to the channel’s social media figures.

The channel has also developed fact-checking and explainer formats to help audiences make sense of complex stories and distinguish reliable information from misleading content.

Journalism and innovation

As technology changes how news is produced and consumed, AnewZ is exploring the use of artificial intelligence across different areas of its work.

From supporting newsroom processes to developing visual storytelling and digital content, the channel is bringing new tools into journalism while keeping editorial judgement and human experience at the centre.

The people behind the stories

Behind every broadcast, report and production is a team.

AnewZ’s journalists, correspondents, presenters, producers, camera operators, editors, designers, technical teams and colleagues across the organisation have helped build the channel from Baku into an international newsroom.

Their work, commitment and creativity have made this journey possible.

And to the audience that has watched, read, shared and joined AnewZ along the way: thank you.

Two years on, the story continues.
