Three people were injured in a stabbing at a further education college in Warsaw on Saturday, police said, as a series of violent incidents involving young people raised concerns about possible copycat attacks in Poland.
Police spokesperson Jakub Filipiak told Reuters that officers received a report of an incident involving a dangerous weapon at 12:30 pm. One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others were hurt but did not require hospital treatment.
The attacker was a 21-year-old student at the college, Filipiak said.
Polish state news agency PAP reported that the victims were two 17-year-old girls and a 24-year-old woman who had visited the college to submit enrolment documents. Preliminary police findings indicated that the attacker and victims did not know each other, PAP reported.
The incident follows two separate stabbing attacks at schools earlier in the week.
On Friday (9 October), thousands of police officers visited schools across Poland to reassure pupils after the attacks sparked fears of further violence. Saturday's incident is likely to heighten those concerns.
Police said they had inspected around 50,000 facilities since Friday and detained 76 people. Authorities had previously said most of those detained were teenagers who had made threats online.
