Former U.S. President Barack Obama has spoken out after a video depicting him and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes was briefly shared on President Donald Trump’s Truth Social account.

The video was removed following bipartisan criticism. White House officials later said the post had been made in error by a staff member.

Obama addressed the incident during an interview with journalist Brian Tyler Cohen, published on Saturday.

“The majority of the American people find this behaviour deeply troubling,” Obama said.

The video’s brief appearance online drew condemnation from members of both political parties, who described the imagery as offensive.

White House officials said the post was not authorised and was taken down once it was brought to their attention.

The incident has reignited debate over political rhetoric and standards of conduct on social media, particularly involving high-profile public figures.
