Israeli gunfire killed at least three Palestinians in two separate incidents across the Gaza Strip on Sunday (11 January), local health authorities reported. It's despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October between Israel and Hamas.
The Israeli military said forces fired at a "terrorist" who crossed into the area under their control in the northern Gaza Strip, posing an immediate threat.
Medics said one man was killed in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City, an area under Palestinian administration.
In southern Gaza, the Israeli military said it killed another "terrorist" in an airstrike after he approached troops operating in the area, posing an immediate threat.
However, it's reported that two others were shot dead in the town of Bani Suhaila, east of Khan Younis, which remains under Israeli military control.
The ceasefire, brokered on 10 October 2025 after two years of intense fighting, has significantly reduced hostilities between Israel and Hamas but the fighting hasn't stopped entirely. Alleged violations have continued, with each side accusing the other of breaching the ceasefire.
An Hamas official told Reuters the group had urged international mediators to intervene, accusing Israel of carrying out "daily killings" that risk undermining the fragile agreement.
Since the ceasefire took effect, more than 440 Palestinians, most of them civilians have been killed, according to Gaza's health officials. Israel says three of its soldiers have died during the same period.
The latest deaths have heightened concerns that the ceasefire could collapse, raising the prospect of a return to wider conflict.
