Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has called on South Korea to thoroughly investigate recent drone incidents and provide a detailed explanation, according to a statement released by state media KCNA on Sunday.

Kim expressed her personal appreciation towards Seoul for its wise decision to publicly state that it had no intention of provoking North Korea, but cautioned that any provocations would lead to severe consequences.

Earlier this month, drones were flown from South Korea into North Korea, following a similar incident in September, as reported by North Korea's military on Saturday. South Korea quickly responded, asserting that the drones were not operated by its military forces.

South Korea further stated that it would conduct a comprehensive investigation into the possibility of a civilian having operated the drones, reiterating that it had no intention of provoking North Korea.

Kim remarked, "The clear fact is that the drone from the Republic of Korea violated our airspace." ROK is the official name for South Korea.

She added, "Regardless of who the perpetrator is or whether it was the act of a civilian organisation or individual, the authorities responsible for national security cannot avoid their responsibility."
