Libyan army chief killed in plane crash near Ankara

Libya’s Chief of Staff, Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, and several senior military officials have died in a plane crash shortly after departing Ankara for Tripoli. The Dassault Falcon 50 jet lost radio contact on Tuesday evening near the town of Haymana. Türkiye’s Interior Ministry said the aircraft had requested an emergency landing before disappearing from radar. Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah declared three days of national mourning, describing the incident as a major loss for the country. 

U.S. Justice Department: Epstein–Nassar card was fake

The U.S. Department of Justice has clarified that a controversial card purported to be from the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar is a complete fabrication. Released as part of a congressionally mandated disclosure of Epstein’s files, the handwritten note contained crude references to Donald Trump. However, the FBI said the handwriting did not match Epstein’s and that the item was postmarked in Virginia three days after his death in a New York jail.

U.S. and Iran clash at UN over nuclear talks

Tensions flared at the UN Security Council on Tuesday as the United States and Iran clashed over conditions for reviving nuclear negotiations following the brief conflict earlier this year.  Washington said it was prepared for formal talks but insisted on a zero-enrichment policy, a condition Iran’s ambassador rejected as intimidation and a violation of Tehran’s rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The dispute comes as UN sanctions have been reinstated by European powers, a move Russia and China have questioned, arguing the relevant resolution provisions had already expired.

Gas explosion kills two at Bristol, Pennsylvania care home

At least two people have been confirmed dead and five remain missing after a suspected gas explosion and subsequent fire tore through the Silver Lake Nursing Home in Bristol, Pennsylvania. Emergency crews faced a partial building collapse upon arrival, managing to rescue numerous residents from the debris before a second blast forced a temporary retreat from the unstable structure.While much of the structure remains standing, large sections of the ground floor were destroyed. Search and rescue operations are continuing.
