US envoy Amos Hochstein shared an optimistic outlook on January 6 regarding the ongoing implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
Following meetings with Lebanese officials, including caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Hochstein reaffirmed US. support for the agreement and the Lebanese army’s role in overseeing its implementation.
Earlier in the day, the envoy visited Naqoura in southern Lebanon, where he chaired a meeting with Major General Jasper Jeffers to monitor the progress of the ceasefire's enforcement and verification.
The US-brokered ceasefire, which spans 60 days, is designed to allow for a phased Israeli military pullout after more than a year of conflict, in line with a 2006 U.N. resolution that ended their previous major confrontation.
