MrBeast, the world’s most popular YouTuber, has officially launched his first theme park, Beast Land, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Known for his outrageous challenges and generous cash prizes, MrBeast, whose real name is James Donaldson, has captured the imagination of millions, amassing over 100 billion views on YouTube this month. Now, in a groundbreaking move, he's bringing his unique brand of entertainment to the Kingdom.
This new venture aligns with Saudi Arabia's larger goal of diversifying its economy and transforming society under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030. As part of this vision, the country has quickly evolved from an ultra-conservative state to one embracing entertainment and modernity. The launch of Beast Land is a significant step in the Kingdom's push to become a global entertainment hub.
Beast Land: A New Kind of Theme Park
In a colorful and energetic display of what Saudi Arabia has to offer, Beast Land combines traditional theme park attractions like roller coasters with the wild challenges MrBeast is famous for. Fans can experience real-life versions of the endurance tests featured in his videos, such as a game where participants race to slap a button before their competitors fall into a cushioned pit.
“I’d say give it a try, it’s much more developed than you’d think,” said MrBeast in a recent interview, emphasizing that this theme park offers something beyond the usual fare. The park reflects the innovative blend of Western-style entertainment with Saudi Arabia’s rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.
MrBeast’s popularity worldwide, especially outside the U.S., was another key factor in his decision to bring Beast Land to Riyadh. “Seventy percent of my fans are outside the U.S.,” he shared, highlighting the global reach of his brand. The Saudi capital is not only a prime location for international entertainers but also boasts accessible studio spaces, making it an ideal backdrop for filming his latest YouTube season.
A Changing Saudi Arabia
The opening of Beast Land comes as part of a broader transformation in Saudi Arabia, where entertainment options have flourished in recent years. Once a place where cinemas and concerts were banned, Saudi Arabia now hosts Riyadh Season, an annual spectacle running for months with boxing matches, slap contests, house music parties, and sports events.
The country's shift toward global entertainment has led to high-profile international figures flocking to the Kingdom. The move by Beast Land to launch in Saudi Arabia follows in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose lucrative $200 million contract with Saudi football club Al Nassr has made headlines around the world.
Global Reach and Ambitious Plans
MrBeast’s move to Riyadh is just the latest in a string of ambitious entertainment projects in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom has made attracting international talent a priority, with offers of large compensation and opportunities to work in a rapidly developing sector. As the country seeks to move away from oil dependence, entertainment, tourism, and international investment have taken center stage.
The concept of creating an immersive real-world experience based on YouTube videos is a natural progression for the online star. "One of the top requests I get is: I want to be in a MrBeast video... So now we are creating that in real life where you guys can come visit it and experience what it is like," Donaldson explained, emphasizing the importance of bringing his virtual world into reality.
Facing Controversies and Challenges
While the launch of Beast Land has been met with excitement, MrBeast has also stirred controversy at times. In May, the Mexican government filed a lawsuit against a company that worked with MrBeast after a video he produced at the nation’s ancient Maya pyramids raised concerns about the site's preservation. Despite these challenges, MrBeast’s rise to fame continues, and his latest project is sure to make waves both in Saudi Arabia and beyond.
Beast Land is poised to become a key player in the Kingdom's rapidly expanding entertainment sector, offering a unique blend of high-energy challenges, rollercoasters, and experiences that reflect both global and local influences. With the support of the Saudi government and a growing demand for international entertainment, this marks the beginning of what could be many more high-profile ventures in the Kingdom's entertainment landscape.
