U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his readiness to meet with North Korea's Kim Jung Un during his upcoming visit to Asia.
Trump told journalists aboard the Air Force One that he "is open to it" while also adding that he had a good relationship with the North Korean leader.
Kim Jong Un and President Trump had met in 2019 during his first stint at the White House, making history as the first American President to visit the hermit country.
"I would if he would contact, I mean I was, the last time I met, I put it out over the internet that I'm coming South Korea, if he'd like to meet, I'm open to it. Trump said.
When asked if he was in touch with Kim before his trip, Trump responded that Kim was aware that he would be visiting Asia.
They have very little telephonic service, but he knows I'm coming, and he would, I'll be open to it 100%. I got along very well with him, Kim Jong Un."
President Trump is on his way to Malaysia to meet with the Country's prime minister Anwar Ibrahim and later to attend a dinner with leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
His trip will also include stops in Japan and South Korea, with the meeting with China's Xi Jingpin scheduled for next Thursday following Trump’s address at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit.
On Wednesday, Trump heads to South Korea, where he will meet President Lee Jae Myung.
Trump while speaking to journalists on the aircraft also said he hoped to finalise a trade/tariff deal with South Korea during the trip.
Trump said "It's pretty close to being finalised, I think. So it could be, if they have it ready, I'm ready."
