Munich Airport suspends flights for second day after drone sightings

Munich Airport halted all flights late Friday after multiple drone sightings, disrupting travel for around 6,500 passengers in a second consecutive day of airspace incursions.

Germany’s Munich Airport said 23 arriving flights were diverted, 12 inbound services were cancelled, and 46 departures were either cancelled or delayed until Saturday. The disruption affected thousands of passengers.

The airport noted that as on the previous night, it worked with airlines to provide support inside the terminals.

Flight operations had already been suspended on Thursday after drones were detected in the area, grounding 17 departures and diverting 15 incoming flights before services resumed on Friday.

The incidents come amid wider European concerns about drone activity. In recent weeks, Poland, Romania, Estonia and Denmark have reported airspace violations or disruptions caused by drones. Russia, often accused of being behind such operations, has denied involvement.
