At least two people were killed and eight others wounded in a Russian airstrike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka on Wednesday, according to regional officials.
Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin said on Telegram that Moscow dropped three aerial bombs on the city, which lies close to the front line. One of the injured is in serious condition, he added.
The strike damaged 16 private homes, three high-rise buildings and a car, Filashkin said.
The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported the attack took place at 10:25 a.m. local time (07:25 GMT), noting that emergency services provided medical assistance to those affected.
Kostiantynivka, an industrial hub located about 25 kilometres south of Kramatorsk, has been a frequent target of Russian strikes due to its strategic position. The city has served as part of Ukraine’s defensive line since 2014, when Russian-backed forces captured Donetsk city.
Earlier in the day, Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its forces had defeated Ukrainian units near five settlements in the Donetsk region, including Kostiantynivka. Moscow has not commented directly on the reported airstrike.
