Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday (7 September) called on allies for support after Russia launched a huge drone and missile barrage, which left four people dead.

The strikes caused damage across the north, south and east of the country, including the cities of Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih and Odesa, as well as in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, Zelenskyy said.

Emergency crews in Kyiv continue to clear rubble, with Zelenskyy warning that “there may still be bodies beneath it. The Cabinet of Ministers building has been damaged. As of now, more than forty people have been reported injured across the country, 20 of them in Kyiv.”

The Ukrainian leader also underscored the significance of the international response, describing Russia’s escalating aggression as a test of global resolve.

“It is important that today we saw a broad response from our partners to this strike. Clearly, Russia is trying to inflict pain on Ukraine with even more brazen attacks.”

Zelenskyy urged allies to move beyond statements and adopt tougher measures against Moscow.

He concluded with a sharp message about Moscow’s intentions. “Putin does not want negotiations, he is clearly hiding from them, so Russia’s fuel shortages and other economic troubles are the logical response to its refusal to agree to a ceasefire or a meeting at the leaders’ level.”
