Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, currently on an official visit to China, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussions were described as warm and cordial, with both leaders reaffirming their shared determination to further consolidate the iron-clad, all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China. Prime Minister Sharif congratulated President Xi on the successful conclusion of the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit in Tianjin and extended felicitations on the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War.
Commending President Xi’s visionary leadership, which has guided China’s ongoing modernisation and progress, the Prime Minister said Pakistan took great pride in China’s achievements and remained ready to work alongside China in this transformative journey. He expressed appreciation for China’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and socio-economic development.
Highlighting the importance of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a flagship initiative under President Xi’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing the next phase of CPEC, centred on five new corridors. He stressed that this would contribute to building an even stronger Pakistan–China community with a shared future.
The Prime Minister also welcomed President Xi’s consistent advocacy for multilateralism, affirming Pakistan’s full support for the Global Governance Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilisation Initiative. He noted that these would serve the wider international interest and promote peace, stability, and development both regionally and globally.
President Xi reiterated that China would continue to support Pakistan across all areas of economic development, particularly as both countries enter the second phase of CPEC, with a focus on Pakistan’s key economic sectors.
The two leaders agreed that their nations’ relationship was unique and unmatched, and should be reflected through enhanced cooperation. They also exchanged views on major regional and international developments, pledging to maintain close coordination. Prime Minister Sharif renewed his invitation for President Xi to pay an official visit to Pakistan next year, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
