Israel carried out an airborne landing on a former air defence base in southwest Damascus during a series of strikes, Syrian army sources told Reuters on Wednesday.
The forces reportedly withdrew shortly after the landing.
The base, previously used by Iranian forces during Bashar al-Assad’s rule, is located near key military sites in the Kiswa region and the strategic Jabal Manea hilltop. These locations were also used by pro-Iranian militias, according to Syrian army sources.
An Israeli military spokesperson declined to comment on foreign reports.
Syrian state media reported that six soldiers were killed in Israeli drone strikes in the Damascus countryside near the same area the previous day. A Syrian military source added that several casualties were initially reported during Wednesday’s landing.
The source also suggested that some military equipment may have been left behind in the area, possibly by Iranian-backed forces, and that the Syrian army has since established a limited presence there.
