A private plane crashed in San Fernando, Argentina, on Wednesday, December 18, killing both the pilot and copilot, according to local reports.
The aircraft, which was traveling from Uruguay, lost control while approaching the Buenos Aires suburbs and collided with residential properties, causing significant damage to several homes and vehicles.
Eyewitnesses reported intense scenes, with one resident, Sandra Martinez, recounting how windows exploded and her mother's house shook when the plane struck nearby. Security cameras in the area captured the moment when the Bombardier Challenger 300 aircraft failed to stop after landing at San Fernando Airport. The plane veered off the runway, broke through a perimeter fence, and crashed into a row of houses, resulting in a massive fire.
The two crew members who died in the crash have been identified as Martin Fernandez Loza, 46, and Agustin Orforte, 35. No other passengers were on board. The aircraft, owned by Argentine businessman Jorge Brito, also the president of the River Plate soccer club, was returning from a trip to Punta del Este. This tragedy comes three years after Brito’s father, also named Jorge Brito, died in a helicopter crash in 2020.
Footage shared on social media by local resident Jessica Jacqueline Baez shows thick smoke and flames engulfing the wreckage, with firefighters responding to the scene.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of air travel in the region, as investigators continue to assess the cause of the crash
