Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to request cabinet approval for a significant expansion of Israel’s military activity in Gaza, according to several Israeli media reports.
Citing sources close to the premier, Ynet reported that Netanyahu has privately told ministers he intends to extend operations into areas of Gaza not yet under Israeli control. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) currently operate in approximately 75% of the territory.
A senior official quoted in the report said the government is preparing for a broader campaign across the entire Strip, including areas where hostages may still be held. According to the same source, Netanyahu has indicated that military activity would continue regardless of the risks associated with ongoing hostage negotiations.
The IDF has reportedly expressed reservations about expanding operations across all areas of Gaza. Military leaders have warned that such a move could take years and may endanger hostages, especially if troops approach known or suspected holding locations.
Netanyahu confirmed earlier on Monday that he would convene the cabinet to decide on the next steps.
