U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday that trade relations with China are currently “in a good place,” paving the way for talks focused on rebalancing China’s economy.

Speaking in an interview with Fox Business, Bessent described China’s economy as “the most imbalanced, unbalanced economy in the history of the world,” calling the situation unsustainable.

He added that U.S. officials plan to meet with Chinese counterparts next week to discuss the benefits of China temporarily pausing purchases of Russian and Iranian oil.
