The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has announced a €63 million investment to strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurial capacity of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Europe.

The newly funded projects aim to transform HEIs into key drivers of innovation, skills development, and regional resilience. Among the 620 participating organisations are 284 HEIs, 186 businesses, and 150 other partners including research centres and public bodies. Notably, 193 HEIs are newcomers to the programme, raising the total number of funded institutions to 501 — surpassing EIT’s 2027 target ahead of time.

Twelve of the projects will focus on deep tech, contributing to the EIT’s goal of training 1 million deep tech talents by 2025. Roxana Mînzatu, Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, called the investment a strong signal of confidence in Europe’s ability to turn ideas into impactful solutions through academic-industry collaboration.
