United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday warned that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has reached a critical level and called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire. He emphasised that vital infrastructure is on the verge of collapse due to a severe fuel shortage.

The Secretary-General stressed the importance of protecting civilians and meeting their needs in accordance with international humanitarian law. He also called for safe and sustained humanitarian access to those in desperate need.
Furthermore, Guterres renewed his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, as well as the unconditional release of all hostages.
