The U.S. House of Representatives approved a significant tax-cut and spending bill on Thursday, passing it by a narrow margin of 218 to 214. The legislation has now been sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.
The bill enshrines many of Trump’s domestic policy objectives into law but it is expected to add approximately $3.4 trillion to the national debt.
House Speaker Mike Johnson announced the result of the vote, confirming the bill’s passage.
Following the announcement, lawmakers on the floor chanted “USA” in celebration.
Among those opposing the bill were Republican Representatives Thomas Massie and Brian Fitzpatrick, who joined all Democrats in voting against it.
The Senate had earlier approved the bill by a 51-50 vote, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the deciding vote to break the tie.
Vance took to social media to congratulate all involved, calling it “One Big, Beautiful Bill” and highlighting the delivery of substantial tax cuts alongside funding for border security.
President Trump is expected to sign the bill into law on Friday.
