Azerbaijan and China have deepened energy cooperation, with new agreements signed to advance green energy initiatives and improve Azerbaijan’s electricity transmission system in line with its renewable energy targets.
During his visit to Ningbo, China, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Xu Lu, Vice President of China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (CEEC), to discuss the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between the Ministry of Energy and CEEC in June.
The meeting focused on advancing joint efforts in several key areas: electricity planning and grid studies in Azerbaijan, establishing a Joint Green Energy Research Center, and developing hydro, solar, and offshore wind power projects. They also discussed progress on green energy interconnectors to support cross-border energy flows.
As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy also signed an agreement with China’s Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI) on researching Azerbaijan’s electricity transmission network. This agreement supports the country's renewable energy goals for 2030 and beyond, with EPPEI to provide technical consultancy for network development.
Under the agreement, EPPEI will conduct modeling and simulation based on the current state of Azerbaijan’s power system, analyze the transmission grid, forecast electricity demand, and provide recommendations for integrating large-scale renewable energy sources.
