A new freight route connecting eastern China to Azerbaijan via Turkmenistan has officially been launched, marking a significant expansion of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, also known as the Middle Corridor.

The first cargo train departed from Jinhua city in Zhejiang province, one of China’s economically advanced regions, carrying 100 standard containers filled with clothing, accessories, metal parts, and various goods.

Upon arrival at Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi port, the cargo will be transported across the Caspian Sea to Baku Port, streamlining east-west logistics.

Authorities say the new route will:

  • Ease congestion along the Aktau–Baku shipping line
  • Accelerate delivery times for Chinese goods heading to Central Asia and Central-Eastern Europe
  • Strengthen China-Europe supply chains under the Belt and Road framework

This corridor represents the 26th international railway freight route established by Zhejiang province connecting China with Europe.
