Within the framework of this conference, Azerbaijan has been unanimously elected as the Chair of the Central and Eastern Europe regional group, a position it will hold for two years, and has also been selected as a member of the COP16 Bureau.
During its term as Chair, Azerbaijan will also serve as the Vice-President of the Conference of the Parties.
The group includes 15 Eastern and Central European countries, alongside Azerbaijan.

The main duties of the COP16 Bureau, which represents 12 regions, include overseeing the implementation of COP decisions and organizing future COP meetings. The Bureau also monitors the implementation of commitments made between COP sessions.
